Chapter 12
▶Original Text
無根樹,花正佳,對景忘情玩月華。金精旺,耀眼花,莫在園中錯揀瓜。五金八石皆爲假,萬草千方總是差。金蝦蟆,玉老鴉,認得眞鉛是作家。
▶Modern Translation
The flower on the rootless tree blooms with beauty, captivating the heart in the moonlight.
The essence of gold radiates, and the flower glows brilliantly.
But be not deceived by illusions within the garden.
All five metals and eight stones—mere counterfeits.
Among myriad herbs and remedies, none are true.
The golden frog and jade crow—only one with discerning eyes can recognize real lead.
▶Interpretation
This poem warns against being swayed by outer appearances.
True refinement requires inner discernment, not mere surface appeal.
Only one who knows the true essence—lead—can identify what is real amidst illusions.
▶Interpretation related to Tai Chi
True mastery in Tai Chi lies beneath appearances.
Do not be fooled by beautiful or forceful moves; authenticity stems from within.
